Intressant? a oui.

Kensington school principal charged with internet luring of minor

Kensington school principal charged with internet luring of minor

SUMMERSIDE The man who was principal of Kensington Intermediate Senior High School when town police investigated a complaint of internet luring involving he and an underage female student, has now been formally charged.

Terry Irving Foster, 41, of Summerside, will make an appearance in Provincial Court here Jan. 31.

Kensington police had issued a press release in midDecember saying they were investigating a school staffer on that charge after receiving a complaint from a Grade 12 female student.

Town police chief Lewis Sutherland said at the time no further comments would be made until the investigation was complete.

When contacted again Friday, Sutherland declined to comment on the case, saying a publication ban has been put in place, which protects the identity of the alleged victim.

One of the courtimposed restrictions Foster is under is that he have no contact with anyone under the age of 18, unless they are immediate family members.

In provincial court documents filed in Summerside, Kensington police allege Foster used the internet to lure a minor under section 153 1 of the Criminal Code of Canada sexual exploitation of a young person contrary to section 172.1 1 A luring a minor.

Police allege the incidents occurred in Kensington between Dec. 6 and 11, 2012.

Attempts by The Guardian to contact the department of education and school board last month to determine the employment status of the school staffer being investigated were unsuccessful.

Inaugural International Conference on Education

Inaugural International Conference on Education

Ireland was among more than 15 countries represented at this weekends inaugural International Conference on Education, where digital learning, teacher effectiveness and strategies to close the achievement gap were discussed. More than 250 educators, thought leaders and researchers convened in Chicago to share best practices and discuss pressing education issues in a city that has become ground zero for education reform.

Dr. Timothy McNichols, lecturer at the School of Creative Technologies at the Institute of Art, Design and Technology in Ireland, discussed technology and digital learning in education. McNichols specializes in the study of social media as a teaching and learning aid.

No matter what country you are from, education is the most critical issue facing todays young people, said Salim Ucan, vice president of Concept Schools, which operates high performing charter schools in Chicago and throughout the Midwest. As part of our responsibility to prepare our youth as the next generations leaders, we must continually work together and draw from each others expertise.Education is a dynamic and complex issue, and the International Conference on Education has been a tremendous opportunity for educators and academics to collaborate, share new ideas and get fresh perspectives to tackle common challenges, and reach common goals, Ucan said.

How to Increase Your Metabolism

How to Increase Your Metabolism

Thyroid disorder Hypothyroidism underactive thyroid gland and hyperthyroidism overactive thyroid gland can slow down or speed up metabolism, but only 3% and .3% of the population have hypo and hyperthyroidism respectively.

Weight different tissues of your body contribute different amounts to resting metabolism. Muscle contributes more than fat per unit mass and, because it is denser than fat, muscle contributes much more per unit volume 2, but this may not be practically significant 3. Muscle burns more calories than fat does 73 more calories per kilogram per day, to be exact2 so the more muscle you build, the higher your resting metabolic rate RMR will be. Every muscle cell that you gain is like a little factory that constantly burns calories for you, even while you sleep, and revs up when you exercise.

This is the only way to increase RMR, which accounts for 60 to 70 percent of the calories you burn daily.7

From a recent conservative estimate 8 one can extrapolate that in one year a person with 2.2 kg more muscle will burn calories corresponding to 1 kg of fat due to this muscle mass. Your metabolism will slow down as you lose weight. The more weight your body is carrying, the more calories your body has to burn in order to sustain itself, even at rest. When you begin restricting your calorie intake, youll lose weight relatively easily because your bodys high caloric needs are not being met. But after you begin to shed the weight, the body has less mass to carry and thus needs fewer calories. In order to continue losing weight, you will have to restrict your caloric intake even further in order to maintain a difference between what your body needs and what you are providing.2 Lets go through a hypothetical example:

You are 200 lbs and your body needs 2500 calories a day to sustain itself. You cut down your caloric intake to 2000 calories.

You lose 25 lbs. Now your body only needs 2250 calories to sustain itself because its carrying less weight.

If you continue with your 2000 calorie per day diet the diet that helped you lose the first 25 lbs you will still be losing, but at half the speed. In order to maintain a steady weight loss you will need to reduce your caloric intake further. However, it is at the utmost importance you do not try to consume fewer calories than your RMR!

Another possible problem: If you continue with your 2000 calorie per day diet the diet that helped you lose the first 25 lbs you may actually gain weight back because of varying levels of exercise. Lets say you lose 50 lbs. on your 2000 calorie diet. Your sustaining calories might be 1800. Youre actually consuming enough calories to gain weight, but how would that happen if you had stayed on your diet? This can happen when your exercise has burned through many calories. If you slowed on exercise at this point you would actually gain weight again. The point here is to recheck your RMR when you lose weight and compare it to your consumption.

There are no fatburning foods. celery and grapefruit increase metabolic rate, but its just a myth.6 While some foods and drinks such as red peppers and green tea have been studied for their potential metabolic rate increasing properties, there is no conclusive evidence that whatever influence they have on metabolism is significant enough to result in weight loss.2 However, it has been proven that all foods do have what is called the thermic effect. Foods with protein have a 30% thermic effect, and are the most thermal of all foods. So that means if you eat a 100 calorie portion of meat, 30 calories from the food are required to break down the fibers in the protein and to properly digest it. Foods with higher amounts of fiber also have a high thermic effect. This is why people who eat 40% protein 40% carbohydrate and 20% mainly monounsaturated fat diets do very well, especially if they are carbohydrate sensitive and/or endomorphs.

Homeowner Housing Panel

Homeowner Housing Panel

Property Factors Scotland Act 2011 aims to protect homeowners by providing minimum standards for property factors. The definition of property factor is contained in Section 2 of the Act.

Please note our information for Applicants wishing to apply to hohp at commencement of the Property Factors Scotland on 1st October 2012, can be found on our webpage how we work.

There will be a compulsory register of all property factors operating in Scotland and property factors will have to comply with a new

Code of Conduct that sets out minimum standards of practice.

The Act allows homeowners to make an application to the Homeowner Housing Panel for a determination as to whether their property factor has failed to carry out their factoring duties, or failed to comply with the Code of Conduct. If the Homeowner Housing Committee, which considers the application, considers that the property factor has failed to comply with the Code or failed to carry out their duties, then a Property Factor Enforcement Order must be made requiring the property factor to take such action or make such payment as is considered necessary. Failure to comply with such an Order is a criminal offence.

To take a complaint to the Homeowner Housing Panel, homeowners must first notify their property factor in writing of the reasons why they consider that the factor has failed to carry out their duties, or failed to comply with the Code. The property factor must also have refused to resolve the homeowners concerns, or have unreasonably delayed in attempting to resolve them.

A property factor will only be registered by Scottish Ministers if they are considered to meet a fit and proper person test and subsequent renewals of registration of a property factor will also depend on them showing full cooperation in complying with the Property Factors Code of Conduct. In instance where Scottish Ministers refuse to register an applicant in the register of property factors or where an existing property factor is removed from the register, the individual/body concerned will be unable to recover any costs in respect of work instructed or any charges incurred after a relevant date. This date is linked to the end of the appeal procedure to challenge the Scottish Ministers decision to refuse to register or remove a property factor from the register. Once a property factor is registered, the registration will be valid for three years from the date on which the entry on the register is made and then the property factor will require to submit a further application for renewal of registration. Once a property factor is registered, they will be allocated a registered number which should appear on documents sent to homeowners. Property Factors must provide Scottish Ministers with a list of properties or land in relation to which they act as property factors.

Gucci eyewear from Glendale optometrist

Gucci eyewear from Glendale optometrist

Less than 12 hours after thieves stole roughly $63,000 worth of expensive sunglasses and eyewear on Thursday from her family business, optometrist Ani Halabi was back to work and meeting with patients.

Nothing is going to bring me down, she said, adding that the burglary hasnt stopped her from continuing to do what she loves to do serving her community.

Halabi, who is nine months pregnant, has been talking to vendors, seeing patients well past closing time and working into the early morning to restore her business, Glendale Family Optometry. thieves shattered the glass door and entered the business in the 400 block of East Glenoaks Boulevard, where they broke into several display cases.

Thieves stole more than 100 of pairs of Ray Ban sunglasses and dozens of pairs of Dolce Gabbana, Prada, Gucci and Polo prescription eyewear, police said.

Not only did thieves steal roughly 65% of Halabis inventory, they also caused extensive damage to her display cases, which were custommade.

Last November, thieves also stole $40,000 worth of expensive sunglasses from Blue Eyes Optometry in the 100 block of West Wilson Avenue. In that theft, the intruders used a sledgehammer to smash glass displays and steal Chrome Hearts sunglasses, which can cost up to $2,000 each.

No one has been arrested in connection with either burglary, but police are investigating whether the incidents are related, Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz said.

Halabi opened her business three years ago and relocated to the Glenoaks address about 18 months ago.

She not only sees patients at her private practice, but also helps lowincome children in need of vision care.

She serves patients at free vision clinics organized by Glendale Healthy Kids and the American Medical Society of California, and has been recognized by Northwest Glendale Lions Club for her community service.
